Frankly speaking, I’m not a big fan of frogs. This is especially eating them. Hehehe… but once in a while, I do crave for exotic food. The last time that I’ve had frog porridge is at Geylang, Singapore. I’m sure everyone knows that place, especially those friends at JB and Singapore.

We came across a blog that introduces the similar frog porridge here at KL. Its the kung po type, and looking at the pictures in that blog, I’m already drooling. Another reason that I would eat the frog is its cooking style. It has to be kung po. Worse come to worse, I’ll just eat the sauce with my porridge. Haha.

So.. the shop that we’ve ventured to is fatty frog porridge, located at overseas union garden at old klang road. Lucky for PP, this place also serves his favorite fish head. We’ve ordered ourselves a pot of kung po frog porridge and a fish head steamed with bean sauce. Nice.

First review is on the frog and porridge. The pot frog comes with very thick kung po sauce, lots of spring onion and big chunks of onion. Frog meat wise, it would be better if they could give us more. Like I say, the gravy itself is good enough. Mixing it into the porridge looks just like mixing marmite or vegemite to the porridge. It only tastes different. Porridge wise, is smooth and not too thick.
As for the fish head, its actually half the size of a fish. This fish is very fresh. What’s on the bad side is the sauce that they steam the fish come with too much oil. We eventually poured out a small bowl of oil. Can you imagine that? Taste wise, I find it rather salty. I think the steam fish at Wang Chiew Rest (SS2) or at New Paris (SS2) tastes far far better than this. Hence I do not encourage you to order their fish. If you want to eat real fish head, head over to Chan Sow Lin. You’ll never regret that.
