Are you crazy over indonesian food? We recently found this restaurant named “Waroeng Penyet”, located at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara. The word “Waroeng” means a traditional hut in Indonesia that serve ranges choices of traditional authentic food with a reasonable price (unlike fine dining restaurants). The word “Penyet” means “Flattened” as most of the main dishes are being flattened. But this is just a Javanese-style of making the food unique as compared with other dishes. It does not affect in terms of taste or quality.

Some of the signature HALAL dishes are like Ayam Penyet (the original one), Empal Penyet, Ayam Bakar, Siomay Bandung (Fish Dumplings w/ Peanut Sauce), Chicken Satay and Chicken Soto. On top of all that, the factors that make Waroeng Penyet different than the other restaurants that serve similar dishes are the belacan chilli (sambal terasi) as they serve spicy and mild version. Their chilli is freshly made every morning in a very traditional way by the Yogyakarta-originated head chef. As for the drinks, their specialty drinks are Avocado Juice, Ice Cendol, Happy Soda and Teh Botol. All the dishes are priced reasonably to cater all markets here.

We’ve ordered a Ayam Penyet (flattened fried chicken), Ikan Bakar (bbq fish), Gado Gado (mix salad in peanut sauce) and Sayur Asem (sour vegetable soup). The Ayam Penyet was very crispy, and served with belacan chilli. We liked the Ikan Bakar the most, the fish is very fresh and fried till very crispy. Its served with a black and sweet chilli. Its just like the Malay ikan bakar in Malaysia. The Sayur Asem, unfortunately was not to our liking. It resembles the tom yam soup, but lacking of spiciness. I guess its not our style, but I’m sure some of you out there will like it. Gado Gado on the other hand was very nice as well. Its a mixed salad, served with crunchy keropok, egg, cucumber, beancurd and layered with peanut sauce.

I love the fried chicken here, esp with the kicap manis sauce.
